Format of BP Debate
•Only 1 motion is announced for each
round.
•All teams have 15 minutes to casebuild
started right after the Motion Launch
•The government must propose the motion.
•The opposition must negate the motion and
present an alternative (ie. the status quo or counter model).
•Each speaker has 7 minutes
to speak.
•Points of Information (POI) are allowed
between the 1st and 6th minute.
Roles - Opening Government
•The OG has to set up the debate – ie.
present the context/problem, define the motion, set a parameter, propose a
model (if necessary).
•The PM and DPM should present different arguments – ie. through a split.
•The PM and DPM should present logically
consistent arguments.
•The OG should present the majority of the
government’s case.
•Don’t ever use substantive related to law or
any religious matter.
Example: KUHP or Kitab ____ ayat ___
•Don’t ever be repetitive. Emphasize and give
new analysis is allowed.
•Don’t only question! Give response is sure
better act.
•If status quo is really in danger state,
don’t be quiet! Give your new model!
Use your time wisely and maximally. The more
time you spend, it indicates that how willing you to win and show how your
method is good.
Be creative and out of the box – not too far
from the box!
In defining, you can use 3 steps:
Literal, contextual (portray), and example.
Be friendly! For every your opponent, they
are still your friend set by committee nature to against you.
