Local Culture through English Festival 2011

“Local Cluster, Local Culture with English Together”, the sentence that was chosen as the English Festival 2011’s theme. Ahmad Hidayat was the Head of English Festival committee. With a jargon that was created by him, “we arEFamily”, English Festival was successfully held on May, 19th-21st, 2011. In three days, English Department students held a lot of events. What are the events?

1st day
The first day of English Festival was Thursday, May 19th 2011. An Opening ceremony of English Festival was done by a parade of Costume Plays. The costumes were western costumes, with some beautiful gowns, and also Indonesian heritage that was signed by Batik Costumes. English Department’s students who wore those costumes wandered around the Universitas Negeri Jakarta. It really attracted people who saw them wandering the university. Beside that event, there were also Seminar of Critical Thinking by Bapak Arif Rahman Hakim, Movie Analysis which aired “Sweeney Todd”-a musical thriller film-, Art performance from any faculty representatives of Faculty of Languages and Arts, and Bazaar.

2nd day
Some following events were held in the second day of English Festival. Stadium General of Plagiarism, Seminar of Study Abroad and International English Test, Book Analysis which discussed “Oliver Twist”-authored by Charles Dickens-, and still, the Art Performance. The Stadium General was presented by Bapak Ifan Iskandar; meanwhile, the Book Analysis was presented by Ibu Rahayu. Seminar of Study Abroad successfully built enthusiasm of either UNJ’s students or other universities. It reached at least 80 participants over 75 participants’ target that had been planned before. Oby  Eka Rizky, who used to be a student of ED was the keynote speaker. For your info, he had got chances to study abroad in 7 countries over the world! How awesome he is! He shared his experience in each country and also gave a lot of scholarships information to the seminar participants. And the participants were really satisfied; moreover, the Seminar of International English Test just like TOEIC was also held. It really related to the seminar of study abroad.
